People met Ho Chanty (Director), Sokun Thea, Teran, Deborah Groves (Founder)
We met with Chanty, Thea and Teran at Deborah’s apartment in Siem Reap which doubles as the project’s office. The project accounts are compiled by Deborah but we were shown the very detailed procedure which is followed, on a weekly basis, by Chanty and the rest of the team in Cambodia. Every penny is accounted for and, where possible, receipted. This meeting took place the day after our visit out to Prasat Char and L’Berk. At Prasat Char we were able to see the Breakfast Club in operation and to speak to some of the children, who all wanted to practise their English with us. The area around the school was busy with children, some eating breakfast, others just playing as they waited for their classes to begin. We then went to meet the elected village leader at L’Berk village. This is the village where toilets are being built. In all some 200 toilets have been built with another 80 in progress, every one helping to reduce the incidence of infection in the villages. We were treated to lunch by the leader and his wife, every item on the menu came from their garden including the chicken and the banana flower! Once again the impression was of a highly efficient, well run organisation working with the villagers to improve their quality of life.
