Thanh Xuan Peace Village, Hanoi 22 March 2011
People met: Dr Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong (Director), Director of Administration
Dr Phuong welcomed us and thanked us for our past help to the Peace Village, help that she said was both practical and efficient. She told us that, from January 2011, their status had been upgraded to that of a Hospital for Rehabilitation with a remit to:-
- Provide intensive care for child victims of Agent Orange
- Develop further on rehabilitation
- Provide care for anyone who needs it, particularly the elderly
Unfortunately there was no additional money to deal with these new responsibilities so the need for outside help was even greater than before. The new analyser supplied by MSAVLC was in the lab. Dr Phuong told us there are 100 children residential at the Peace Village with 80% of them having traceable connections with Agent Orange, a similar proportion to that at Hoa Binh Peace Village.
