MSAVLC has financially supported “All Ears Cambodia” which has set up Audiology clinics in Cambodia and Laos.
All Ears Cambodia is a local NGO, established for the relief of persons with hearing impairment and deafness and the preservation and protection of hearing in the Kingdom of Cambodia. It promotes activities for the prevention, mitigation or relief of avoidable causes of hearing impairment and deafness, and for the conservation of hearing.
A programme to establish the first audiology service for the rehabilitation of hearing-impaired persons in Laos was launched in 1998. Diagnostic and rehabilitative units were established at the National Rehabilitation Centre in Vientiane and Champasak Hospital in Pakse. Both these sites now have the facilities for detecting, assessing, diagnosing and treating hearing loss in patients. Those found to have active infective disease of the ear are referred, where possible, for medical or surgical treatment. Where appropriate, those with irreversible hearing loss, or conductive losses where indicated, are fitted with hearing aids. The programme not only involves the provision of equipment but also training of the local staff, both aspects facilitated largely through those of All Ears Cambodia.
