In 1995 Chris Mullin MP wrote a letter to MSAVLC saying that during a visit to Vietnam he had gone to Ky Anh to see the British Friendship Hospital and discovered that in Ky Anh district there were more than 2000 cases of blindness, but that many of them could be cured by a simple cataract operation. He asked if MSAVLC could help and in February 1996 £10,000 was sent to the British Friendship Hospital for cataract operations.
